From The Elms’ head towards the T-junction and follow North Road on your left until you get to the roundabout and Sanders Lane - walk left and you’ll see the stone fence and entrance gates to Stanhope Park (on your right).

The park was the location of World Heavyweight Boxing Champion JOE LOUIS. The ‘Brown Bomber’ visited the park in July 1944 for an exhibition match to aid morale amongst the black Americans in the area.
