Now head back towards the town centre and enter Fore Street. On your left stands the

WHITE HART HOTEL.

The White Hart Hotel dates back to 1591 and is believed to have been the site of the ancient Manor House for Holsworthy – or as it was know then, Haroldsworthy.

During the second world war, the White Hart Hotel was purchased by Messrs Avery of Bristol, one of Britains oldest wine merchants, in order to build a reinforced cellar where they could safely store their collections of vintage wines. Bristol was repeatedly and heavily bombed so Ronald Avery moved their precious wines out of the area. The cellar is no longer there having since been removed.

The pub also had a bar called ‘The Dive Bar’ which was only for the use of officers.
